Bakersfield is full of things worth knowing about. We’re making them easier to find.
The Bakersfield Mom is a local media platform helping families discover where to go, what to do, and who to know in Bakersfield.
We bring together local events, places, businesses, resources and stories so families can spend less time searching for what’s happening here — and more time being part of it.
The problem isn't that Bakersfield has nothing to do. The problem is finding it.
The Bakersfield Mom exists to make local life easier to navigate — by gathering what’s happening, organizing what’s useful, and sharing what’s worth knowing.

Because finding your community shouldn’t be this hard.
Local information, made useful.

We turn scattered local information into calendars, guides and resources that are actually easy to use.

Our Mission
To make Bakersfield easier to explore, navigate and belong to by connecting families with the places, people, events and resources around them.
Our Vision
A Bakersfield where families can easily find what their community has to offer — and where the people, businesses and organizations creating those opportunities can more easily reach the people they serve.
What guides us
Useful over noisy.
We want what we publish to help someone do, find, understand or discover something.
Community over competition.
A stronger local ecosystem benefits all of us. We believe in amplifying good work, connecting people and creating more ways for Bakersfield to thrive.
Local matters.
The places we go, businesses we support, organizations we join and people we meet shape how a city feels to live in.
Trust comes first.
Our audience is not something to sell access to indiscriminately. Partnerships, recommendations and editorial decisions should make sense for the families who trust us.
Founded here.
Built here.
The Bakersfield Mom was founded by Jess, a Bakersfield parent who kept running into the same problem: there was plenty happening locally, but no easy way to find all of it.
What began as sharing local discoveries has grown into a larger effort to make local information easier to find, use and share.
Today, Jess leads The Bakersfield Mom as its founder and publisher, building an independent local media platform around a simple idea: the more we know about our community, the easier it is to be part of it.
